Malaysia on Saturday officially launched the LRT3 Shah Alam Line, marking a major milestone in the country’s public transportation development and reinforcing efforts to build a more modern, efficient and integrated transit network.
The new rail line is expected to improve connectivity across the Shah Alam corridor, making daily travel easier for millions of residents and workers while supporting broader economic growth.
According to the government, the LRT3 project will help reduce travel time, lower transportation costs and decrease reliance on private vehicles, contributing to reduced traffic congestion in urban areas.
Authorities also view the project as a key driver of transit-oriented development (TOD), with improved transport links expected to attract investment, expand commercial activities and generate employment opportunities.
In addition, the launch of the new line is expected to improve public access to jobs, education, healthcare and other essential services, supporting better living standards and more balanced urban development.
Speaking at the launch, the government of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said infrastructure development under the Madani framework would continue to focus on people-centred growth and long-term sustainability.
Officials said continued investment in modern public transport infrastructure would strengthen Malaysia’s economic competitiveness while ensuring development benefits reach all levels of society.
Authorities expressed confidence that the LRT3 Shah Alam Line will further enhance the efficiency and sustainability of Malaysia’s urban transport system.
