Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam paid a courtesy call on Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Monday as part of his three day state visit to Malaysia.

The meeting took place at the St. Regis Kuala Lumpur and was attended by Malaysia’s Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Johari Abdul Ghani, Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan, Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong, as well as senior officials from both countries.

President Tharman is on a three-day state visit to Malaysia from July 13 to 15, aimed at reinforcing the long-standing bilateral relationship and expanding cooperation across various sectors.

Earlier on Monday, Tharman expressed confidence that the longstanding economic partnership between Singapore and Malaysia would continue to grow stronger. He made the remarks during an audience with Malaysia’s King, Sultan Ibrahim, at Istana Negara.

The president arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Sunday night at the invitation of Sultan Ibrahim.

The visit marks Tharman’s first trip to Malaysia since assuming office as Singapore’s ninth president in September 2023. It also serves as a reciprocal visit following Sultan Ibrahim’s state visit to Singapore in 2024, underscoring both countries’ commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing cooperation.
