Malaysia has launched two new education initiatives aimed at improving learning facilities and academic performance among students of selected Tamil national-type schools across the country.
The initiatives, Madani Furniture Initiative and Kalvi Madani Programme were launched by Human Resources Minister R. Ramanan in the presence of Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.
A total allocation of RM28 million has been earmarked for the two programmes, which are expected to benefit around 50,000 Indian students nationwide.
Under the Madani Furniture Initiative, RM12.8 million has been allocated for 361 government-aided Tamil schools, benefiting approximately 39,692 students and 5,290 teachers.
The programme will provide essential school facilities, including desks, chairs, whiteboards, cabinets, canteen furniture and other necessary equipment.
Meanwhile, RM8 million has been allocated for the Kalvi Madani Programme, which will support about 10,410 students from 315 selected schools, as well as their families, through free tuition, academic assistance and various educational activities.
As part of the programme, students will receive additional classes in Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mathematics and Science after regular school hours. They will also be provided with lunch, learning materials and digital devices.
Speaking at the launch, Ramanan said education remains the foundation of human capital development, adding that the government is committed to ensuring more inclusive and effective educational support for students.
