Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed condolences to the people of Venezuela following powerful earthquakes that struck the northern part of the country, offering support to victims and confidence in ongoing rescue efforts.
In a statement posted on social media, Anwar said the earthquakes were among the strongest to hit Venezuela in more than a century and noted that the full extent of casualties and damage had yet to be determined.
“My thoughts are with every family now in mourning, and with those still waiting for word of loved ones trapped beneath the rubble,” he said.
Anwar also expressed confidence in the efforts of Venezuelan rescue workers as they continue search and recovery operations under difficult conditions.
He said Malaysia trusts that international assistance being mobilized for Venezuela will help provide relief and support to affected communities in the days ahead.
Authorities have yet to release a final assessment of the impact of the earthquakes, with rescue operations continuing.
