Malaysia has emphasised strengthening its economy and enhancing preparedness to face potential global risks at the 149th meeting of ministers and chief ministers.
The meeting, held on Tuesday at the Parliament building, was chaired by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. Discussions focused on reviewing various government initiatives aimed at economic recovery and further strengthening the national economy, in light of global economic uncertainty arising from ongoing conflicts in West Asia.
The country’s preparedness for a possible El Nino event was also assessed. Key concerns included water supply, the agriculture sector, food security, as well as risks of extreme heat and hailstorms.
The meeting also stressed the need to improve economic competitiveness, attract high-quality investments and ensure the welfare of the people. It underscored the importance of implementing policies and initiatives in a more coordinated, efficient and people-centric manner.
At the same time, a renewed commitment was expressed to further strengthen coordination and cooperation between the federal and state governments in Malaysia, so that the benefits of development can be fully enjoyed by all citizens.
