Malaysia’s Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDNK) has detained five people, including four Bangladeshi nationals, in a targeted raid on suspected counterfeit branded clothing shops in the Jalan Kenanga area of the capital.
Enforcement teams from KPDNK swooped on three business premises in the Jalan Kenanga vicinity at around 12:30pm on Wednesday, seizing garments bearing the names of internationally recognised brands including Adidas, Hugo Boss, Nike and Levi’s.
Preliminary investigations suggest that a portion of the confiscated items may be counterfeit or in violation of trademark laws, authorities said.
The five individuals detained, four Bangladeshi citizens and one local Malaysian male, are aged between 30 and 62.
KPDNK officials said detailed investigations have been launched to verify the authenticity of the seized goods and establish whether trademark laws have been breached. Efforts are also underway to trace the origin of the products and identify the supply network behind the operation.
The ministry said such enforcement drives will be conducted on a regular basis as part of its ongoing commitment to curbing the counterfeit trade, protecting consumer interests and safeguarding the rights of legitimate brand owners.
Legal action against the detainees will be determined upon completion of the investigation, officials added.
