A generational contest marked the Johor state election as 28-year-old Pakatan Harapan candidate Felicia Poh emerged victorious in the Penggaram state seat, defeating a veteran rival, while Barisan Nasional’s 65-year-old Samsolbari Jamali successfully defended the Semarang seat.

Poh’s victory in Penggaram highlighted the growing presence of younger leaders in Johor politics, with the first-time state assembly representative overcoming a more experienced opponent to secure the constituency.

In Semarang, however, veteran politician Samsolbari maintained his strong support base, retaining the seat for Barisan Nasional and reinforcing the coalition’s influence in the constituency.

The contrasting outcomes in Penggaram and Semarang underscored the diverse electoral preferences among Johor voters, with one constituency opting for youthful leadership while another placed its confidence in an experienced incumbent.

The results reflected the evolving political landscape in Johor, where a new generation of leaders is beginning to emerge alongside seasoned politicians who continue to command voter support.
