Tensions between Iran and the United States escalated again in the Persian Gulf region after Washington launched airstrikes on multiple Iranian military sites, prompting Tehran to announce retaliatory attacks targeting U.S. military assets in Kuwait and Bahrain.

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said American warplanes struck 10 Iranian military targets in and around the Strait of Hormuz. The operation was announced through a video posted on social media on Sunday, which the U.S. military said showed footage of several strikes.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) later confirmed that U.S. attacks had taken place, saying five coastal locations inside Iran were hit during the latest round of strikes.

In response, the IRGC said it launched ballistic missiles and drones targeting the U.S.-operated Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait and the U.S. Fifth Fleet stationed at Salman Port in Manama, Bahrain.

Statements published by Iran’s state news agency IRNA and Tasnim News Agency described the operation as a direct response to U.S. military action against Iranian territory.
