Malaysian immigration authorities have detained 20 undocumented migrants, including two Bangladeshi nationals and two children, during a joint enforcement operation in George Town, Penang.

The operation was conducted by the Penang Immigration Department (JIMPP) in collaboration with the National Registration Department (JPN), targeting four business premises suspected of employing or harbouring undocumented foreign nationals in violation of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

A total of 28 individuals were inspected during the raid, with 20 foreign nationals taken into custody for further investigation.

Those detained included 18 adult men and two children. By nationality, they comprised 16 Indians, two Myanmar nationals and two Bangladeshis.

Authorities also inspected four employers believed to be linked to the employment of foreign workers at the premises as part of the investigation.

The Penang Immigration Department said it would continue to intensify joint enforcement operations with relevant government agencies to curb the presence of undocumented migrants and ensure employers comply with Malaysia’s immigration laws.

The department also urged the public to provide information on immigration-related offences, reaffirming its commitment to taking firm action against individuals and employers found violating the country’s immigration regulations.
