Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Wednesday reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to deepening strategic ties with the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with both sides exploring greater cooperation in defence, governance, artificial intelligence (AI) and regional security.

During a courtesy call by Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Defence Affairs Committee, Domestic and Abroad, National Council of the UAE, the two leaders discussed a wide range of bilateral and international issues aimed at strengthening the longstanding partnership between the two countries.

The meeting highlighted the shared commitment of Malaysia and the UAE to expanding collaboration in areas of mutual interest, particularly strategic sectors that could enhance bilateral relations and deliver long-term benefits.

Among the key issues discussed were recent geopolitical developments, including the conflict involving the United States and Iran, and its potential implications for regional peace, security and stability.

The leaders also exchanged views on the growing role of AI, particularly its application in defence and public governance.

Anwar welcomed the UAE’s experience in integrating AI into government administration, citing its initiative to require ministers and senior government officials to undergo AI training to keep pace with rapid technological advancements.

Describing the UAE’s approach as a valuable model, the prime minister said Malaysia is keen to learn from its experience as the country accelerates its own digital transformation agenda.

He said Malaysia looks forward to further strengthening cooperation with the UAE across various strategic sectors, expressing confidence that closer collaboration would contribute to the prosperity, stability and shared progress of both nations as well as the wider region.

The meeting reflected the growing Malaysia-UAE partnership amid evolving global challenges and expanding opportunities in innovation, security and economic development.
