Malaysia and Pakistan reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, particularly through closer parliamentary cooperation, during the second day of Malaysia’s official visit to Islamabad.

The Malaysian delegation visited the Parliament of Pakistan and held a meeting with Speaker of the National Assembly, H.E. Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, as well as a courtesy call on Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan, H.E. Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani.

The meetings provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on the longstanding friendship between Malaysia and Pakistan, which is built on mutual trust, respect and strong people-to-people ties.

Discussions also focused on expanding cooperation between the two parliamentary institutions and strengthening the role of parliamentary diplomacy in advancing bilateral relations.

Amid current geopolitical developments and security challenges, both sides highlighted the importance of dialogue, diplomacy and peaceful solutions to disputes.

The Malaysian delegation also shared Malaysia’s experience in prioritising dialogue and constructive engagement through ASEAN to promote regional peace, stability and cooperation.

During the visit, the delegation toured the Parliament Museum and learned about Pakistan’s parliamentary history, including the development of its constitutional framework and parliamentary institutions.

Malaysia and Pakistan share a strong and historic friendship. Continued exchanges between the countries’ leaders and institutions are seen as important in deepening mutual understanding and further strengthening bilateral cooperation.
