Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Thursday said the government is committed to developing professional talent and enhancing workforce readiness for the artificial intelligence (AI) era to reinforce the country’s position as a regional hub of professional excellence.

In a post on his official Facebook page, Anwar said the issue came up during a courtesy meeting with a delegation from the Malaysian Professional Institute (Balai Ikhtisas Malaysia-BIM), led by its president, Prof ChM Dr Juan Joon Ching.

“We exchanged views on efforts to develop talent and enhance the preparedness of professionals in the era of artificial intelligence (AI). This initiative is important to strengthen Malaysia’s position as a regional centre of professional excellence,” he said.

Anwar said the government values the professional community as a strategic partner in strengthening the country’s competitiveness, driving innovation and advancing the MADANI agenda for the well-being of the people.

The prime minister also said he accepted an invitation to attend Hari Ikhtisas Malaysia (Malaysia Professional Day), an event that recognises the contributions of professionals to the country’s development.

Expressing hope for closer collaboration, Anwar said stronger cooperation between the government and the professional community would help nurture more professionals with integrity, competitiveness and leadership qualities to lead Malaysia into the future.
