Malaysian police have seized synthetic drugs worth an estimated 135.63 ringgit million and arrested seven suspects in a major anti-narcotics operation targeting a drug syndicate in Kuala Lumpur.

The Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) said the coordinated operation, codenamed Ops Haritas, was carried out at multiple locations across the capital on June 20.

NCID Director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the seven suspects comprise six Malaysian nationals and one foreign woman, aged between 20 and 55.

Police first raided a house in Cheras, where five suspects were arrested. Officers seized MDMA powder and ecstasy tablets during the operation.

In a subsequent raid on a vehicle, police arrested two more suspects and recovered ketamine.

Following further investigation, officers raided an abandoned industrial factory in Cheras Baharu that was allegedly being used as a clandestine drug laboratory. The raid led to the seizure of ecstasy, MDMA powder and liquid MDMA.

Preliminary investigations found that the syndicate had been operating since November last year, manufacturing synthetic drugs for distribution in the local market.

The investigation is ongoing, and all seven suspects have been remanded for further questioning.
