Barisan Nasional (BN) recorded both the largest and one of the narrowest victory margins in the 16th Johor state election, while Pakatan Harapan (PH) managed to retain Simpang Jeram by only 170 votes.

BN’s biggest triumph came in Permas, where candidate Baharudin Mohamed Taib defeated PH’s Sharon Teo with 51,274 votes against 21,769, securing a commanding majority of 29,505 votes. The margin was almost four times larger than the 7,926-vote majority he achieved in the 2022 state election.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi also registered a resounding victory in Machap, defeating PH’s Nor Hafiz Roslan by 15,375 votes after polling 20,382 votes against 5,007.

Other major BN victories included Tiram, where Datuk Abdul Halim Suleiman won with a 28,255-vote majority, and Kota Iskandar, where Datuk Pandak Ahmad retained the seat with a 21,206-vote majority.

In contrast, Simpang Jeram emerged as the state’s closest contest.

PH’s Nazri Abdul Rahman narrowly held the seat after defeating Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Dr Mohd Mazri Yahya by just 170 votes, making it the slimmest winning margin in the election.

The result marked a sharp decline from Nazri’s 3,514-vote majority in the 2023 by-election, highlighting a significantly tighter contest in the constituency.

BN swept 48 of Johor’s 56 state seats in the election, securing a landslide mandate to form the state government.
