Johor is targeting more than 200,000 new job opportunities by 2030 as the Malaysian state intensifies efforts to attract high-quality, high-value investments.
Johor Menteri Besar Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the state government is focused on securing investments that generate quality employment and strengthen the skills and capabilities of the local workforce.
He said Johor was well positioned to attract more strategic investments, particularly in high-value sectors, given its proximity to Singapore and its growing economic potential.
The initiative is part of Johor’s broader economic transformation agenda, which seeks to drive sustainable growth while ensuring that local communities benefit from the state’s investment momentum.
Johor has set an investment target of RM260 billion by 2030 under its Johor Economic Transformation Plan, with the creation of more than 200,000 new jobs among its key targets.
The state has already emerged as a major investment destination in Malaysia, attracting projects in sectors including advanced manufacturing, digital technology, data centres, logistics and green industries.
Onn Hafiz said the state would continue working closely with the federal government and investors to create an environment conducive to quality investments and higher-value employment.
The emphasis on high-skilled jobs is also aimed at ensuring that Johoreans can benefit directly from the state’s rapid economic development rather than relying solely on low-skilled employment.
Johor’s strategic location, infrastructure and close economic links with Singapore are expected to remain key drivers of its investment-led growth in the coming years.
