Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has said the 2027 Budget will be designed to ensure that the country’s economic growth translates into tangible benefits for the people through greater fairness, dignity and improved living standards.
Speaking on Thursday, Anwar said preparations for the 2027 Budget would begin in the coming weeks ahead of its scheduled tabling in Parliament in early October.
He stressed that while fiscal discipline and strong economic performance remain essential, they should not be the sole indicators of national progress.
According to Anwar, government policies must also reflect the moral purpose of governance under the Malaysia Madani framework by ensuring prosperity leads to higher wages, quality employment, affordable housing, better healthcare, improved education and greater social mobility.
He said economic growth should expand opportunities for all Malaysians and enhance people’s capabilities, rather than merely improving macroeconomic indicators.
