Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has called for stronger independent oversight and accountability mechanisms to ensure more effective anti-corruption efforts, saying the fight against graft requires a united national approach.

In a social media post, Anwar said the appointment process for new members of the Special Committee on Corruption (JKMR) and the Anti-Corruption Advisory Board (LPPR) had been completed following approval from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, with the appointment documents already submitted to Parliament.

He said both JKMR and LPPR would serve as important “check and balance” mechanisms aimed at strengthening the effectiveness of Malaysia’s anti-corruption framework.

Addressing the newly appointed members, the prime minister urged them to take a firm stand in carrying out their responsibilities to reinforce the country’s anti-corruption initiatives.

Despite coming from diverse professional and social backgrounds, he said all members must remain united in their shared commitment to intensifying efforts against corruption in the national interest.

Anwar also stressed that combating corruption cannot be handled by a single institution alone, saying coordinated action is needed involving enforcement agencies, advisory bodies, Parliament, the public and private sectors, and society as a whole.
