Malaysian immigration authorities have detained 52 foreign nationals during a coordinated enforcement operation across several locations in Selangor, targeting suspected immigration offenders and those facilitating their stay.

The operation, conducted by the Selangor Immigration Department on Sunday afternoon, involved 34 enforcement officers who simultaneously carried out inspections in Batu Caves and Selayang, north of Kuala Lumpur.

According to authorities, a total of 72 foreign nationals were inspected during the three-pronged crackdown, which began at 4 pm.

At the Batu Caves Night Market along Jalan Sri Selayang, officers screened 59 foreign nationals and detained 39 individuals from Myanmar, Indonesia, Bangladesh, India and Pakistan for alleged immigration offences, including entering Malaysia without valid travel documents and overstaying their permits.

In a separate inspection at premises in Selayang Baru, four men: three Indian nationals and one Pakistani were arrested.

Meanwhile, another operation at a residence in Kampung Laksamana, Batu Caves, led to the detention of nine individuals from Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Authorities said a witness summons was also issued during the operation, while at least one employer has been identified for further investigation.

The Immigration Department indicated that enforcement efforts would not only focus on undocumented migrants but also on individuals or entities suspected of employing or harbouring them illegally.

The 52 detainees remain in custody as investigations continue under Malaysia’s Immigration Act.

Officials said similar enforcement operations will be carried out across Selangor in the coming weeks.
