Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to building an inclusive and sustainable creative economy, saying the newly established Orange Economy Council (MEJ) will serve as the country’s highest coordinating body for the sector.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Anwar said he chaired the first meeting of the Orange Economy Council for 2026, describing it as a key step toward strengthening Malaysia’s creative ecosystem through strategic governance and close collaboration among stakeholders.

The prime minister said the council had been established as the nation’s highest-level body to drive the development of the creative economy and provide strategic direction for the sector.

According to Anwar, the council will also act as the government’s advisory body on the orange economy while leading the planning, implementation and monitoring of policies and initiatives related to the country’s creative industries.

He said the council’s primary responsibility is to formulate national policies and strategies for the orange economy by identifying key challenges as well as opportunities across the sector.

Anwar expressed hope that the council would spearhead an inclusive transformation of Malaysia’s creative economy in line with the Malaysia MADANI vision, which places emphasis on human values, innovation and sustainable economic growth.

“The aspiration is for this highest governing body to drive an inclusive shift that reflects the principles of Malaysia MADANI by promoting humanity, creativity and economic sustainability,” he said.
