Malaysia has launched the Digital Malaysia Action Plan 2030 (MD2030): Towards an AI Country, a comprehensive national strategy aimed at accelerating the country’s digital transformation and positioning it as an inclusive artificial intelligence (AI) nation by 2030.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced the initiative on Monday after chairing the Meeting of the Digital Economy and Fourth Industrial Revolution Council.

He said the action plan is designed to strengthen Malaysia’s competitiveness and resilience in the rapidly evolving global digital economy while addressing challenges arising from geopolitical uncertainties, artificial intelligence, automation and the growing data-driven economy.

Anwar said the government will ensure that every initiative under MD2030 is implemented in a structured, disciplined and impactful manner to deliver tangible benefits to the people, enhance business competitiveness and support the country’s long-term digital ambitions.

“The government’s priority is to ensure every initiative under this plan is carried out effectively so that it creates real value for the people and the economy while advancing Malaysia’s aspiration of becoming an inclusive AI nation by 2030,” he said.

During the meeting, the prime minister also directed that the development of government digital services be carried out internally under the coordination of the Ministry of Digital through the Government Digital Department.

He said the move is intended to safeguard the security and sovereignty of national data, reduce dependence on external service providers and strengthen digital expertise within the public sector.

Expressing confidence in the commitment of the MADANI Government, Anwar said the Digital Malaysia Action Plan 2030 would serve as a transformative national agenda, reshaping public administration, improving government service delivery and fostering a more innovative, secure and prosperous Malaysia.

The launch of MD2030 marks another major milestone in Malaysia’s efforts to build a leading digital economy powered by artificial intelligence and advanced technologies.
