Malaysia and Timor-Leste have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations by expanding cooperation in trade, investment, education and regional development.

During a special visit by Timor-Leste President José Ramos-Horta, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim hosted a luncheon in his honour, where both leaders discussed ways to strengthen ties between the two nations.

Anwar said Malaysia welcomes efforts to further enhance relations with Timor-Leste as a neighbouring country and an important part of the broader ASEAN family.

He said both countries remain committed to working together to uphold regional peace, stability and prosperity based on mutual respect, unity and shared responsibility.

During the meeting, the two leaders exchanged views on expanding economic and trade cooperation, strategic investment, human resource development, education and technical training.

They also discussed future areas of collaboration aimed at creating new opportunities for young people and ensuring sustainable economic growth.

Expressing optimism over the future of bilateral ties, Anwar said the longstanding friendship between Malaysia and Timor-Leste would continue to grow stronger and contribute positively not only to both nations but also to the overall progress of ASEAN.

The latest initiative is being seen as an important step toward building new partnerships focused on greater regional connectivity and mutual development.
